Anni Gies does a charming coloratura ditty about Spring

Grothe: Frühlingslied, 1975

THE SONGBIRD: I am unable to provide much biography for this singer, Anni Gies. This recording is extracted from a recital disc from the mid-1970s made in Germany on a small independent label. The only information provided on the disc is that she worked as a concert and theater soloist in Bad Neustadt an der Saale and on tour with her husband, the conductor on this disc, Walter Otto Boehm.

THE MUSIC: Franz Grothe (1908 - 1982) arranged and composed several musicals and operettas, but is best remembered for his almost 200 film scores. The song "Ein kleiner Zweig voll Regentropfen" was composed in the 1960s and is noted in his works as a "Lied für Koloratursopran und Orchester." It was recorded by Ingeborg Hallstein about that time of it's composition, so I wonder if he composed it with her in mind? Her version and a few others can be found on YT.
