What is an SPV and why do we have them?

I hear many people talking about SPVs but I’ve come to realise that there’s a lot of confusion surrounding what an SPV actually is. Many people imagine than an SPV is a separate type of entity in its own right. But this is wrong..

An SPV is really just a generic name for any entity that you choose for a particular purpose. It could be a limited company, an LLP; or partnership. It doesn't really matter – an SPV is really just saying that there is an entity which has been used for a specific reason, ie, a limited company for buying property.

In this video I talk about SPVs – what they are and why we have them – and consider why most investors in the UK are using limited companies to purchase property.
