SCHOOLS IN KASESE BOOST AGRICULTURE FOR PRACTICAL LEARNING AND NUTRITION
Schools in Kasese District, both private and government-owned, have been urged to implement school gardening to provide hands-on agricultural practices for students, enhancing food and nutrition.
Speaking to stakeholders around Kasese schools, officials emphasized the need for schools to be more practical in teaching agriculture.
Mr. Thembo Stephen, Farm Administrator at Kasese Secondary School, explained their goat project aims to support students' studies and food needs.
Other projects include piggery, rat rearing, and farming various crops like bananas.
At St. Theresa Girls' School in Nsenyi-Kisinga Sub County, staff members Mr. Edwin Mumbere (Food Master) and Mr. John Bwambale Mufanzala (French teacher) highlighted their school garden's focus on food nutrition and practical lessons.
The school administrations expect these projects to enhance income generation.
The chairperson of Kasese Headteachers Association, Mr. Joseph Nzukwa, recommended school gardening to help schools overcome hunger and provide practical learning sites.
Many Ugandan schools serve posho and beans, indicating a need for balanced diets.
