Sinking of the Empress of Ireland

On May 29, 1914, the ocean liner Empress of Ireland was sailing for the mouth of the Saint Lawrence River, filled with passengers bound for Liverpool, UK. Fog engulfed the Empress of Ireland right after she had spotted another ship on the horizon after midnight. The chain of events that followed resulted in a fatal collision between these two ships. The sinking of the Empress of Ireland is the worst maritime disaster in Canadian history and is often referred to as 'Canada's Titanic.'
