The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes: The Mazarin Stone

The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone was first published in October 1921 in The Strand Magazine. It is one of the 12 stories from the collection 'The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes', first published in 1927. These are the final dozen Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The action takes place at 221B Baker Street and features Sherlock Holmes, his page Billy, plus Dr Watson, a master criminal by the name of Count Negretto Sylvius and a boxer. There is also a telegram sent to the intriguingly named Detective Youghal (pronounced Yawl) of Scotland Yard.

This is one of two of Sherlock Holmes stories written in the third person. (As is The War Service of Sherlock Holmes). This is probably because The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone was adapted from a stage play, and this in turn explains why the story is confined to one room.

It is read by Greg Wagland for Magpie Audio.
