A massive clean-up and public awareness campaign for religious and tourist destinations in Mustang district has been launched from the Dashgaja area of Korlana, which borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of North China. The four-day Mustang District Clean-up and Public Awareness Campaign (Nepal-China) was formally launched from Wednesday from North Korlana, jointly organized by all five rural municipalities of Mustang district and coordinated by the District Coordination Committee Mustang and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Lomanthang.
Stating that the increasing carbon emissions globally have adversely affected the environment and the agriculture, tourism, biodiversity, religion and culture of the mountainous district of Mustang, all five municipalities of Mustang have expressed their collective commitment to reduce pollution. With the improvement of the national pride Korala Road in Mustang district and the increase in the number of tourists every year, the practice of indiscriminate waste disposal by citizens and tourists has affected the beauty of Mustang district and is damaging the ecological balance, and the people's representatives and employees of Mustang, including environment-related organizations, have started a large-scale cleaning campaign of religious and tourist destinations in Mustang district, expressing concern.
The campaign's District Coordination Committee Chief of Mustang, Maya Gurung, and the chairmen of all 5 rural municipalities of Mustang jointly announced the launch of the Mustang district cleaning and public awareness campaign program from the border pillar No. 24 in the Dashgaja area of Korlanaka. At the campaign announcement program, Lopsang Chomphel Bista, Chairman of Loghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality of Mustang, said that Mustang district also has to deal with the impact of the climate crisis, which has become a matter of global concern. Chairman Bista said that the effects of lack of snowfall, rain at favorable times, increase in seasonal temperatures in cold geographical areas, and increasing damage to agriculture and biodiversity are starting to be seen. He said that although it is not possible to reduce climate damage in Mustang alone, a mass cleaning and public awareness campaign has been launched to protect the environmental beauty here. ‘Just cleaning the place is not enough, it is desirable to clean from the heart of the people,’ Chairman Bista said, ‘For this, we have tried to spread the message of Mustang among the world community through such a campaign. This is a powerful message that the locals of Mustang can unite in creative and innovative activities.’ It is said that the massive cleaning and public awareness campaign launched from the Nepal-China (Coralana) of Mustang will be held in all 5 local levels of Mustang. The last and fourth day of the campaign will end at Ghansa in Thasang Rural Municipality, which is on the border of Myagdi and Mustang, informed Bedahari Adhikari, Chief Administrative Officer of Gharpajhong Rural Municipality. According to him, the first day of the campaign began from Korlanaka under Lomanthang Rural Municipality and on the first day, a comprehensive cleaning and public awareness campaign was completed in the road in front of the Nhechung Customs Office in Lomanthang, Zhong Gufa, Choser, Thingar and Lomanthang, the Chief Administrative Officer Adhikari said. After Lomanthang Rural Municipality on the first day of the campaign, a comprehensive cleaning and public awareness campaign was completed in Loghekar Gumba, Charang Village and Luri Gumba of Loghekar Damodarkunda Rural Municipality, he said. During the campaign, Gharpajhong Rural Municipality Chairman Mohan Singh Lalchan pointed out that the number of tourists in Mustang has increased and the purchase of goods imported from China has increased the number of people in Korlanaka and that it has not been managed. "The indiscriminate dumping of waste in the friendly country of China has disrupted the beauty of tourism and the environmental balance," added Chairman Lalchan. "Due to this, the businessmen living in Korlanaka have been informed about waste management. Our goal is to reach all municipalities and make citizens, businessmen and tourists aware of waste management." Chairman Bista said that since waste management is a challenge, such a campaign alone is not enough. Chairman Bista said that the main goal is to spread a global message as more than 72 foreign citizens from different countries come to Mustang for sightseeing and religious activities. As part of the garbage cleaning and public awareness campaign launched from Korlanaka, it has been decided to be held in Chhusang, Kagbeni and Muktinath of the Waragung Mukti Kshetra.
