The first tourist police post in Karnali Province has been established in Mugu district. A temporary tourist police post was established on Monday near Rara Airport, the entry point of the Rara Lake area, with the aim of making the Rara tour and residence of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Nepal's largest and deepest Rara Lake safe. Inaugurating the establishment of the tourist police post, the chief guest of the program, Mayor of Chhayanath Rara Municipality Bishnu Kumar Bham said that the first tourist police post has been established in Mugu district in the entire Karnali Province as per the decision of the municipal executive to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of the Government of Nepal to have a tourist police to make the tour of tourists safe and enjoyable. Although a temporary post is currently established near Rara Airport, a permanent post will be established in Salleri near Rara in the near future. The municipality has initiated the process of acquiring public land to build buildings and other physical structures in Salleri. As soon as the land acquisition is approved by the Ministry of Forests, the Government of Nepal will build a permanent tourist police post in Salleri. Since the tourist police will not only protect tourists but will also perform other police duties, the establishment of the tourist police post will make it easier for the Nepal Police to work in Mugu district and tourists visiting other tourist areas in Mugu, including Rara, will now be safe, the security official said. Although there are currently 29 tourist police units across the country, there was no tourist police post anywhere in Karnali Province. Now, with the establishment of the 30th tourist police unit in Mugu, the tourist police has reached Karnali as well. According to Sanju Kumar Bishwakarma, Assistant Police Inspector of the temporary tourist police post Rara, the work of the tourist police will be to prevent misbehavior of domestic and foreign tourists visiting here, to make them feel safe and to extend their stay, to take control of anyone involved in criminal activities, and to guide tourists.
