GM OnStar Privacy Conflicts – Disabling VCIM Module Tracking

Struggling with GM OnStar privacy conflicts? If opting out of \Family Link\ or \Smart Driver\ in the app feels unreliable, it's because the vehicle's core safety programming often overrides your software settings. The only permanent solution to stop the telemetry is a physical one. This involves disabling the Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCIM), either by pulling its dedicated fuse or, more precisely, by disconnecting its antennas. You can typically access the VCIM behind the glove box and unplug the purple FAKRA cellular antenna cable to sever its connection. However, this action has a significant trade-off. It will trigger a permanent red LED on your rearview mirror, log a fault code, and completely disable the SOS button and the critical Automatic Crash Response system. Your car will no longer be able to automatically call for help in a serious accident. Reversing this change often requires a dealer-level scan tool to clear the stored fault code.,
