Car Won't Start After Battery: Fix High Resistance at Terminals

If your car won't start and only makes a single click after a new battery installation, the issue is almost certainly a poor connection, not a defective battery. While dash lights may work, they draw minimal power. The starter motor requires a massive surge of over 150A, which can be blocked by a microscopic layer of lead sulfate on the terminal clamps. This gray oxidation creates high resistance, preventing the engine from cranking. Before returning the battery, perform a voltage drop test across the terminal-to-post connection while attempting to start the vehicle. Any reading above 0.5V confirms a bad connection that needs to be physically cleaned with a wire brush until the lead is bright and shiny. This guide shows how to diagnose and fix the high-resistance barrier causing your no-crank condition.,
