How To Catch SPOTTED GAR When Rope Lures Don't Work.

I go out for some spotted gar fishing. I tried a lope lure for a few hours and only had one hit. We went and got some bait and returned the next morning. I tried the rope lure again but tipped it with some nightcrawler and shad. This didn't help and we just started fishing with cut blue-gill. I managed to catch two spotted gar (27" and 30") using the cut bluegill.
