Creek Monster Habitat
A group of University of Texas at Austin students built the Creek Monster Habitat, an illuminated, interactive installation for the Greenway Conservancy’s 2019 Creek Show. The Creek Monster Habitat was designed and created during the fall 2019 semester by a group of students from across disciplines at UT in a course offered by Texas Applied Arts in the College of Fine Arts and taught by Karen Maness.
The Creek Monster Habitat features theatrical lighting, interactive UV reactive leaves leading up to the Monster’s nest, a large sculptural structure spanning 16 feet wide and glimpses of the illuminated eyes of the bashful Monster, peeking out at the patrons visiting the exhibition. Designed and constructed by muli-disciplinary university students with mentorship and coaching from university faculty and industry experts, the Creek Monster Habitat aims to highlight the existing ecosystem and emphasizes the importance of community stewardship and the revitalization and transformation of Waller Creek.
