Brussels Forum: Day 1 // A Marshall Plan for Eastern Europe

While Russia is waging war in Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, and other targets of Russian aggression are concerned about their own security, prosperity, and future in Europe, and being further drawn into President Vladimir Putin’s line of fire. No matter how the war in Ukraine ends, it will have serious implications for Moldova, Georgia, and its neighbors too. Now that the European Union has decided to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, will leaders consider expanding their relationship with Georgia too—including accelerating Euro-integration? What does Georgia want from the EU, the United States, and transatlantic and international partners to transform their nations and ensure security and a future free from threats posed by Russia and other malign actors? What would a Marshall Plan that is wider in scope for Eastern Europe, look like and what should the priorities be? What kind of policy adjustments and financial contributions are needed by transatlantic partners to successfully integrate these two countries further into the Euro-Atlantic sphere of influence?
