Triple Train Meetup in Marion, Ohio. (Two NS trains and One CSX train)

Once again Liam and I are back in Marion, Ohio for some live railroad action. On this wonderful Monday Morning we found that things were starting off pretty slow. We see our first train of the day just after arriving and then we waited for nearly 2 hours for the next train to arrive.

First train of the day was Norfolk Southers M20 being led by #4091 DC to AC conversion AC44C6M and it was lashed up with NS Locomotive 9852 a GE Dash 9-44CW. With the CSX local blocking the main route to the railroad station we had to take a slight detour and found this nice little spot to catch this train moving South on the Norfolk Southern Sandusky District.

Next up was CSX L337 the local job for Marion's industrial center on the east side of town which is a former military depot. CSX serves customers like Sika, Owens Corning and many more. There is also a small intermodal yard and auto rack service here. CSX L337 was lead by locomotive 2680, a EMD GP38-2 and former Sea Board Systems and L&M locomotive 6029. In trail was CSX locomotive 6449 a EMD GP40-2 which was originally built for the B&O railroad in 1981. Conrail caboose 21293 brought up the rear of this consist in its Conrail Rail Blue color Scheme. The Caboose was built originally for the New York Center rail road.

Liam and I then helped Pete clean up some of the debris and chairs that had been blown away by the overnight storms that also damaged the cross gate.

We then see CSX L337 pushing back onto the NS wye to make a cut and as the conductor had stepped of the train a trespasser had come out of the woods and walks right across the NS mainlines. You can see the conductor was not very happy.

After a few hours a road train arrives on the CSX Mt.Victory Subdivision heading West with a mixed freight consist. CSX locomotive 765 was on point a ES44AH and trailing was CSX locomotive 5255 a ES44DC and badge as a ES40DC both locomotives were wearing the YN3 color scheme.

Then the triple meetup! NS 179 was heading North Bound on the Sandusky District with leading NS locomotive 4026 an AC44C6M and Norfolk Southern locomotive 9859 a GE C40-9W built for the NS in 2004.
At this point we had no idea anything else was in the area until I heard the crossing gates lowering over on the CSX Columbus district line.
A CSX South Bound coal train pulling empties was making its way down the line. Powering this train was CSX locomotive 3230 a GE ES44AC-H and CSX 596 GE AC44CW built in 2002 for CSX. So, at this point we were very happy and then it happened. We hear another horn blast and I look over to see a South Bound NS manifest train blasting over the diamonds.
This train was led by NS locomotive 9598 a GE C40-9W and trailing was NS 1843 a Rebuilt EMD SD70ACC which originally was a SD70 built in 1993.
We have been to Marion well over 200 times and this is the first time that we have seen a tripe meetup. Marion is and will always be my favorite place to railfan.

After the meetup CSX L337 pushes West back into the Marion yard for the day.
