New 2025 Toyota GR Yaris - High-Performance Hatchback

Toyota’s GR family of motorsport-inspired performance vehicles is getting a fresh update for 2025, bringing enhancements across the board in driving dynamics, design, and features.

Toyota has amped up the performance of its ferocious all-wheel-drive GR Yaris hot hatch for 2025, with a significant power and torque boost. The 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine now delivers an impressive 221kW at 6500rpm and 400Nm of torque between 3250 and 4600rpm—an increase of 21kW and 30Nm over the previous model—enhancing both acceleration and overall drivability.

Customers can now order the upgraded GR Yaris in either GT or GTS grades, with a choice between the familiar six-speed intelligent manual gearbox or a newly introduced eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The GR Yaris’ all-wheel-drive system now features three selectable drive modes—Normal, Track, and Gravel—allowing drivers to tailor torque distribution to suit different conditions. Torque is split 60:40 front-to-rear in Normal mode, 53:47 in Gravel mode, and is variably adjusted for optimal performance in Track mode.

To support the demands of the new automatic transmission, the front-end of the GR Yaris has been redesigned with a wider lower grille that improves airflow and houses key cooling components. In GTS grades, this includes a dedicated transmission cooler, sub radiator, and an intercooler spray system for enhanced thermal management.

The new grille also improves aerodynamic efficiency by directing air through side ducts positioned ahead of the front wheels. Its split construction is a practical touch, allowing for easier replacement of individual bumper components in the event of damage.

At the rear, styling updates include a more cohesive look with a body-coloured spoiler and redesigned combination taillights that now span the full width of the tailgate. Larger dual exhaust tips complete the package, complementing the increased engine output with a more aggressive aesthetic.
The interior of the GR Yaris has received a significant overhaul for 2025, guided by feedback from rally drivers around the globe. At the heart of the update is a more driver-focused cockpit, with the dashboard now angled 15 degrees toward the driver for improved visibility and control.

Key ergonomic changes include a lowered driver’s seat hip point—25mm lower than before—which not only enhances the driving position but also creates an additional 37.5mm of headroom, making it more comfortable for helmeted driving. Adjustments to the clutch and footrest positioning, along with a revised steering column angle, further contribute to a more natural, performance-oriented seating posture.

Technology upgrades include a new 8.0-inch multimedia touchscreen atop the centre console, now supporting wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. In front of the driver, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster delivers key performance data, with three configurable sections that allow for customisable readouts tailored to individual driving preferences
Both GT and GTS models are offered with a choice of a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Pricing starts from $55,490 plus on-road costs for the GT manual, while the automatic variant is priced from $57,990.
