The turnaround, when you get to the 11th and 12th bars that is where we separate the pros from the joes. The reason it is called the turnaround is because the idea is to create a massive amount of tension, let it hold, and then get to the top, turning around the 12 bar. That is exactly what we are doing today, but with a twist, we are going to introduce the triplet timing. What is a triplet? In street musicians terms it is shoving swing time into a straight beat, in academic terms it is playing three notes over a quarter beat. It creates a swing time that is classic and bluesy. Another cool thing about intros? Well, you can also use all these turnarounds as intros! We are breaking down 5 turnarounds and we will go through them building up the different times, starting with 1/4 notes, then 1/8ths and lastly the triplets. Giving the turnarounds a classic bluesy sound. I won't leave you hanging lick wise either, i am going to show you how to apply these ideas to licks as well, so you can see what it sounds like when you play licks in triplet rhythm.

How to participate

Below is all the information on how to enter and win. I just wanted to say quickly that this is designed for anybody to participate and functions as a mast blues class in the key of D with tabs, which will be free, for everyone one. The real prize, the grand prize, is leveling up your playing to something you never knew you could possibly do. These sequential blues lessons will connect all the dots, take away the mystery, and leave playing the blues in the key of D like a professional.

1. Step one, watch the videos.
2. Go to the comment section and click the link pinned in the first comment to Patreon, this will be a FREE TAB for everyone, not just Patreons. All the tabs associated with the blues challenge are free.
3. Record yourself playing that lesson. It doesn't matter how well it is performed, it is just an effort, all you have to do is try your hardest. Having said that it will go at a very beginner friendly pace and we are going to start from the very beginning.
