Today at Daha Yaxşı/Better Days Emin Milli interviews Professor Christopher J. Gerry. They discuss the webinar series ‘Beyond the Boom: Toward Human and Social Development in the Post-Oil Era in Azerbaijan,’ which is the first seminar at the University of Oxford to be dedicated exclusively to modern Azerbaijan.

The seminar has brought together, from across the globe, a range of talented Azerbaijani researchers to provide for a unique examination of Azerbaijan’s development prospects and challenges. The event has been organised by Oxford University’s Russian and East European Studies (REES) and Oxford University’s Nizami Ganjavi Centre (ONGC).

Professor Christopher J. Gerry is the director of Russian and East European Studies, Associate Professor of Russian and Eurasian Political Economy, Deputy Head of the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies and Dean of the St Antony's College at Oxford. His research has focused on the social, economic and health impacts of the changing economic circumstances in Russia and Eurasia. He has published on topics including health policy, smoking behaviours, social exclusion, inequality, wage arrears, vulnerability, gender and mortality.
