Something Old. Something New. Tempe, Arizona.

I was in Tempe this week and decided to take the drone for a spin. This place used to be called Hayden's Ferry back in the 1800s named after Charles Hayden's ferry service across the Salt River. Later, in 1877 Senator Carl Hayden was born in a small house not far from the river on Mill and Rio Salado. The fountain of his house is in this short video. The Haydens also had a flour mill. Mill Avenue is obviously named after the famous old silos. Hayden's Ferry was re-named Tempe after The Vale of Tempe in Greece, although my Greek History professor at ASU told our class that Tempe looks nothing like The Vale of Tempe. Go figure. While at ASU I bartended at a restaurant named Monti's La Casa Vieja (The Old House) which was built around the Hayden's home. City of Tempe bought the property and now Tempe Historic Preservation Foundation is helping develop this iconic piece of real estate. Its amazing how Tempe has grown. Its fantastic to see the fusion of modern architecture fused with old adobe. If you get any value out of this video please click the like and subscribe buttons. Enjoy!
