The Alex Murdaugh retrial just got its judge — and the first thing people found when they looked into her past was something she said under oath about the man defending him. One of the three names she gave was Dick Harpootlian — Alex Murdaugh's lead defense lawyer. And the history doesn't stop at a compliment. She rented office space from Harpootlian. She worked a class-action case alongside him. She handled pretrial matters in another murder case where he sat at the defense table — and when prosecutors wanted his client locked up before trial, she said no.
