The Femmes music jumps to another level in performance, so I'm gonna mix in some classic live performances of the songs in this episode...
Here is a gloriously sloppy performance of Prove My Love from 1983, on the band's hometown TV show At Twelve, (formerly known as Dialing For Dollars), which was hosted by the Milwaukee husband-and-wife team Howard & Rosemary. Howard even gets two shoutouts during the song! This catches the band during Gordon's "bathrobe phase," when he wouldn't perform without one:
https://youtu.be/4Nzq3jyZHAU
This is one of the greatest live versions of Kiss Off ever, live in 1983 at the Hacienda nightclub in Manchester. Check out how young and beautiful Gordon is:
https://youtu.be/NJUtlnn4KDg
This is one of my favorite full concerts from the Femmes, catching them live in London at the Lyceum in 1984. The band are out on the second-album tour, and they look so young, vibrant and full of fire:
https://youtu.be/JJXDEynfgR0
This is Good Feeling, which I still think is the most beautiful song Gordon ever wrote:
https://youtu.be/_yZDSguBypU
Here's the band's wonderfully weird video for American Music:
https://youtu.be/Ag0XRlEvap8
Here's my beloved Special, my jam off the third album:
https://youtu.be/LTfCIikTFg4
And here is a brilliant, live version of Special, slowed down quite a bit, but just as methodical as ever--simply to double down on how...special the song is:
https://youtu.be/MbZiDNRpm_M
This is a raucous performance of Blister in the Sun live again at the Lyceum in 1984:
https://youtu.be/VqaDrFizEts
Here is a blistering live performance of my favorite song off the debut album, Promise, live in Madrid in 1985.:

00:00 Intro
01:07 Violent Femmes
06:30 Hallowed Ground
10:09 The Blind Leading The Naked
13:15 3
16:00 Why Do Birds Sing?
