LIVE: EP votes on von der Leyen’s nomination to head the EU Commission: statements

The European Parliament holds a plenary session to discuss and vote on the nomination of German Defence Minister and European People's Party (EPP) candidate Ursula von der Leyen to head the EU Commission, in Strasbourg on Tuesday, July 16.

After the opening remarks by Italian Social Democrat David Sassoli, von der Leyen is expected to give a statement ahead of the debate in the parliament.

She is also expected to deliver a closing statement following the plenary session.
