Do Indie Devs Still Need to Support Linux Natively?
I’ve been gaming for over 40 years, but I’m still pretty new to Linux. When I made the switch, I expected trouble, launcher issues, anti-cheat problems. I knew I had to give up some games completely. But to my surprise, Proton and Wine have handled just about everything I’ve thrown at them.
In this video, I take a look at how Proton impacts indie game developers and ask a key question: do devs actually need to build native Linux ports anymore?
💬 Let me know in the comments: Are you a developer with experience targeting Linux? Or a Linux gamer who’s seen both sides of the compatibility coin?
🎮 Big thanks to Marco from @StrayFawnStudio for the key to The Wandering Village, the game featured in this video. It's super chill fun and ironically, considering the video is about Proton, it runs natively on Linux 👀
