With the help of the forumer from the Classic Trains forum 🧐 ( http://cs.trains.com/ctr/f/3.aspx ), we know that 75mph was the top speed allowed for the Daylight's schedule, which implicated that the SP 4449 and other Daylight locomotives seldom operated at very high speed in normal circumstance.

The Southern Pacific often used articulated steam engines like the AC-9 (2-8-8-4) and AC-12 (4-8-8-2) for passenger trains, just us the Union Pacific commonly assigned their Challenger, especially the "Early Challenger" 4-6-6-4 locomotives for passenger trains.
