"Flying clamps" - maching all around the workpiece with clamps

Everyone knows this situation - you want to machine a workpiece all around its outside but how to clamp it down?
The usual answers are double sided tape, vacuum table or oversized stock to work with tabs - but you can also just move the clamps during machining if you use engravings instead of closed toolpaths.
