Watashi no Uso (My Lie) - Your Lie in April OST (Piano Cover)

April is here…

I’ve said it many times before, but Your Lie in April is my anime of all time. For me, it was the ideal combination of music, experiences, romance, and character development.

But I don’t need to get into all that here, simply because the music does that all by itself. This OST...It’s so perfectly tender, heart-wrenchingly bittersweet, beautifully hopeful, with a thin veneer of melancholy that just tears at your gut in the most delicate way imaginable.

The piece starts off with stillness, but somehow it’s not stifling. The way the melody climbs in the introduction to the last fermata creates the most delicate of questions that just hangs in the air.

Then at 0:24 the slightest of whispers that marks the beginning of spring broaches the surface of our consciousness, and suddenly the music begins to move and grow, albeit in a very slow, almost stumbling way.

The scent of spring grows stronger at 1:16 with a beautifully melancholic question.

And then at 1:37...Every time I play or hear this I can literally feel the spring breeze on my skin, the sight of cherry blossoms falling in the wind, the sigh of a deep memory that both at once brings a smile to my face and stabs me with the sharpest pang in the heart.

I can literally feel myself tearing up every time I hear the turn at 1:45 in this section, and I feel like I am literally pulled by a swirl of emotions forward through the section at 1:53 into the most painful of V chords at 1:59.

I honestly feel as though I can’t describe all my feelings when it comes to this piece and the way it grips me and throws me straight back into the throes of the series. I’m sorry for not being as eloquent as I usually am, but I guess that’s what the music is for: to say all the things that I simply cannot say using words.

This was recorded in November and was arranged by me, although it’s probably more accurate to call it a transcription of the piano version from the series. I listened to it and figured that it didn’t need anything else since it was already beautiful, so I didn’t add anything.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy my performance of Watashi no Uso. If you haven’t seen Your Lie in April, you should do so. And if you have, then I hope you have a box of tissues nearby for when your eyes start sweating.

Oh, and please don’t post Kaori’s letter in the comments without spoiler tags out of courtesy for people who haven’t seen the show yet and for people who don’t want a second round of crying after the video.
