Road Trip Ghulkin To Ganish Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan, Road Trip Ghulkin To Ganish through Attabad Tunnels and Lake Hunza Valley Gilgit Baltistan. I am traveling in Pakistan by road. In this video, a Road trip from Ghulkin to Ganish through Attabad Lake and Tunnels. My road trip is 35 Km. Attabad Lake is located in Gojal Valley, Hunza, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. The lake was created in January 2010 as a result of the Attabad Disaster. On January 4, 2010, in the remote Hunza Valley of Northern Pakistan, a massive landslide buried the village of Attabad, destroyed 26 houses, and killed 20 people. The landslide dammed Hunza River and formed an extensive lake of 100m depth and 21 km long. The lake has also submerged a 21-km stretch of the Karakoram Highway, Attabad Lake has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in Gilgit-Baltistan offering activities like boating, jet skiing, fishing, and other recreational activities. Part of Karakorum Highway was submerged due to this landslide. On 14 September 2015, Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif performed the inauguration of a realigned 24 km patch of KKH containing five tunnels at Attabad Barrier Lake. The five tunnels, together seven kilometers long, are part of the 24 km long portion of the Karakorum Highway which was damaged in 2010 due to land sliding at Attabad. The realignment project is a construction masterpiece completed at the cost of $275 million. The realignment restored the road link between Pakistan and China and it is expected that a significant amount of trade will be conducted between China and Pakistan using it. The KKH is also a part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor and is expected to significantly increase economic integration between two nations.
