My Top 3 Favorite Lenses for Beauty Photography revealed!
As a beauty photographer one of the top questions I get asked is "what's the best lens for beauty photography?"
The answer is....
There is no right lens! It completely is up to the shoot, your vision, the requirements etc. It's all about the right tool for the job.
However..I do have 3 favorite lenses as my go-tos and in this video I'll break down what lenses I use for what situations.
👉 Here are my top 3:
⭐ 85mm 1.2
A fav among portrait photographers -- I use this lens when I really want a sharp photo and a super narrow depth of field so I can shoot wide open and have parts of the details just melt away, blur the background etc. I ordinarily don't shoot wide open in the studio though, mainly only if the concept requires it.
⭐ 70-200 2.8
Another staple for portrait photographers, mainly due to its versatility, I find myself shooting with this lens a lot.
I grab this lens when I want some variation. I can get the model's shoulders and neck in frame or part of the outfit and I can zoom in and just get the face and focus on expression without having to change lenses.
⭐ 100mm or 180mm macro
Last but not least is my macro lens. This is a super sharp lens great for close up shots and cosmetic and skin campaigns for example. I do often grab the 180mm though just so I have a bit more working distance compared to the 100mm.
Obviously if you don't shoot with a Canon there is an equivalent lens for your brand, it's more about the FOCAL length than the brand, these are just what I choose to use.
💡 Lighting:
All the shots from this shoot were achieved with just a white beauty dish and a grid on a white background.
