In this video I share how I create a color saturated beauty image, plus I’ll share the steps I used to create the best and most accurate color results.
I think about color long before I step foot in the studio. When creating an image with color as one of the most important elements of impact, I consider the color of the light, the background, the makeup, the styling — all of these have to work together for a successful image.
Every color, every hue is done on purpose.
Once in the studio to make sure I am working accurate colors throughout the entire process. To get me started on the right foot, I use an X-Rite ColorChecker Passport II to give me correct white balance and a custom camera/lens profile.
Another important part of my process is making sure I have consistent colors across devices and one way to ensure this throughout is by calibrating my monitors. I use the i1 Display Studio across all of my devices.
Let's take a look at the details of the shoot:
👉Light 1: The main light has a 5 degree grid which creates a tight area of illumination on the face.
👉Light 2: Next I light the background with a zoom reflector an a purple gel which helps to unite the color of the headpiece with the background.
👉Light 3: I felt that the headpiece was falling a little bit too into darkness so I decided to add a 3rd light (with a grid) to help separate the headpiece from the background.
👉Light 4: I added a zoom reflector with a blue gel. This light is mean’t to add color to the shadows and really fill the image with saturated color!
