(31) The Reality of Renovating in Sicily - My €20K Italian Villa

This week, we made serious headway. I finally tackled the old rainwater tank setup by reusing the concrete bath I removed weeks ago—now repurposed as an overflow tank connected to the main runoff system. Out here, every solution has to be smart, practical, and built to last.

Back in the garden, Lewis and I set the foundation—literally—for the rear terrace. Using wooden posts, laser levels, and good old-fashioned tape measures, we worked out the fall, squaring, and elevation planning. Getting this right now will save us hours when it comes time to lay the blockwork.

We also took care of the land. With weeds taking over, the strimmer came out to clear the terrace and back garden. We treated the fruit trees with copper fungicide to fight fungal infections and gave the pear tree a proper repotting after its temporary stay in a mop bucket.

Inside the villa, Lewis primed the ceiling rebar we previously treated with rust converter—one more step toward eventual plastering. In the front garden, we hammered wooden pegs into footings, marked out elevations, and began securing everything with fresh concrete.
