Girl on the Test Card - Pete Winslow & the King Size Brass.
This recording was released in 1973. Although the music and style of playing bears some resemblance to some of the original test card music, I don't think any of these recordings were ever used by the BBC on the television. However they produced this record a copy of which I have owned since the mid 1970's.
I remember being disappointed when upon playing the album it felt like nothing I'd hoped for along the lines of the actual live test card music I had grown liking for. However, since then the musical style seems so typical of that era it appeals in a nostalgic way. Characteristic of that time there is that unmistakable Tijuana sound so much famed of Herb Alpert, and an electric organ probably a Hammond used to good effect on many of the tracks.
Here is a selection chosen form this album which seems more relevant to the subject of the BBC Test Card and the iconic television programmes that usually followed-on from the test card at the time. You will remember 'Java' in particular, it's from the popular visual-art, children's programme introduced by Tony Hart. The rest should not need further explanation. Sit back and wallow in a little more television nostalgia.
Track list as follows -
Tr 1 - Girl on the Test Card. - Winslow/Symour Herald Music
Tr 2 - Los Reyes Del Bronce - Winslow, lemmel
Tr 3 - Saturday Sounds - Stephens; Donna Music.
Tr 4 - Six two five 405 - Winslow; Amow Music.
Tr 5 - Java - Toussaint; Kassner Music
Record produced for the BBC by Steve Allen and released 1973.
Please see other album details on the video's images and pause when necessary.
