BSL015 Megger MIT485 Insulation Tester

This is a review of the Megger MIT 485 Insulation Resistance Tester.

This review also covers the basic functions of the Megger MIT480, Megger MIT 481, Megger MIT400, Megger MIT410, Megger MIT420, Megger and Megger MIT430.

These Insulation Resitance Tester provide test voltages unto 100V (50V, 100V, 250V, 500V, and 1000V). They include PI and DAR measurements and selectable continuity test current of 20mA or 200mA.

A insulation Resitance Tester is used in service and repair to find issues caused by the break down of a cables insulation. Often these failures cannot be found with a standard digital multimeter (DMM) as the exposed conductors may not be making physical contact.

These Meters from Megger a UK based company are built in the UK, True RMS (TRMS) and Cat Iv rated to 600V. Merger invented Insulation Test Meters and these meters feature extended measurement capabilities unto 200G ohms.

I briefly also mention in this review the Fluke 1507/ Fluke 1503 which would be alternatives to the Megger Meters. They however lack the measurement capability with the Fluke 1507having a measurement range up to 10G ohms.

The Megger meters also feature a large Analogue Arc display which other competitive meters in this class do not have.
