Pokémon Gold and Silver: How Satoru Iwata Saved Game Freak

It's common knowledge that Satoru Iwata is responsible for helping Game Freak to include the Johto and Kanto regions in Pokémon Gold and Silver. The full story, though, is even more impressive.

At a time when Game Freak was about to collapse under the weight of Pokémania, with far too many projects to sort through and organize, Satoru Iwata swept in to save the day. Fans of Pokémon across the world have this man to thank for translating the original Pokémon games (Red and Blue) into English, as well as helping to make Pokémon Gold and Silver technological powerhouses with extremely efficient code.

This video is designed as a sequel of sorts to our first video, about the life of Satoshi Tajiri. Much like Pokémon Gold and Silver, this video is made from content that we cut out of our original video, which you can probably tell as we explore the contributions of Shigeki Morimoto and the infamous Mew glitch on the success of the franchise.

Tackling Satoru Iwata's history is something that a lot of you have requested, and this is only the start. We're considering a series of videos entitled "How Satoru Iwata Saved..." because, to a certain extent, everything Iwata-San touched turned to gold.

Now, about the endslate of this video. As we mentioned in a previous video description, we've been running into a bit of financial trouble recently after our artist Kotor, who freelances for a living, lost one of his biggest clients. As such, while we didn't really want to start a Patreon, we're hoping that maybe a few of you might like to chip in a bit to help keep us fed over the next few months while we try to bounce back. Put simply, we don't have the luxury of a lot of time to work on these videos instead of doing actual paid work, which is why this is our first video in April.

But we don't want to do the whole Patreon thing if this isn't something you guys are actually on board with. If you're interested in helping us out and contributing so that we can make videos more frequently, let us know! We'd love to be able to do a video a week, but that's not something we can manage without outside help. So let us know what funky rewards you might like, although bear in mind that we're really hesitant about doing things that'll take creative time away from actually making videos (for obvious reasons).
