Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium- how to use Hardy Weinberg Equation to calculate allele frequency

if a population in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium, hardy weinberg equation is used to calculate the allele frequency of dominant and recessive alleles in the population. In this video from simple biology, Mr. Mahdi describes the conditions for hardy Weinberg Equilibrium in a population. Hardy Weinberg equilibrium states that the allele frequency in a population remains constant if it is not disturbed. The conditions of hardy Weinberg equilibrium are: random mating, large population, no selection pressure, no gene flow (immigration and emigration) and no mutations (mutations are a source of variation and new alleles).
Apply the Hardy Weinberg equation:
p+q=1
p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1
#hardyweinbergequation #allelefrequency #hardyweinberg
Use hardy Weinberg equation to calculate allele frequency by solving problems using the equation. P2 represent the homozygous dominant , 2pq represent the heterozygote and the q2 represent the homozygous recessive.
to understand the hardy Weinberg equilibrium, you may look at the genotypes and punnet square genetic cross at the following links:
