MAPUSA: The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress held a protest march on Saturday at Mapusa against the rising fuel prices, inflation, and the increasing financial burden on common households.
The protest was led by Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Dr Pratiksha Khalap and attended by senior Congress leaders including AICC Goa Desk In-charge Manikrao Thakre, co-incharge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, AIMC Secretary Prajyoti Handore, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, along with Mahila Congress members and party workers.
Thakre said that the way the BJP government has put a strain on the public across the entire country has left everyone worried.
“Modi has increased the prices of what is essential for the public, like petrol etc., while he himself runs abroad. When he was the Chief Minister, he continuously hurled accusations against the then Congress Prime Minister and our party, claiming that the rupee was falling in comparison to the dollar and that the Congress was responsible. But now, if you see, the rupee has fallen considerably in comparison to that time,” he said.
“Prices of everyday items are rising. The poor are being affected, and for women, running the household has become difficult. America is controlling Modi. He listens to Trump and does not say anything. His blind bhakts are praising Modi, but he is not reducing inflation and is instead helping Adani and Ambani. He is selling all the assets to his friends,” he added.
Dr Nimbalkar said that the price of fuel has been increased.
"This is due to the economic policies of Modi. Every section of society, including traders, have been affected by inflation. The BJP government led by Modi has to explain to the people on this inflation which has hit the common man hard," she said.
Chodankar said women have been adversely hit by the price rise.
"There has been a huge increase in the LPG price since Modi became PM in 2014. Taxes have been increased, essential commodity prices have risen. The Bahujan Samaj and middle class has been affected. Modi has destroyed the economy," he said.
Dr Khalap said that from 2014 to date, inflation has hit the common man.
“We have seen how Modi’s narrative against Congress on this issue won him the election. But now, by promising achhe din, he has put the public in trouble. He had made statements when the Prime Minister was Manmohan Singh that when the rupee of the country falls, the PM is a fallen man. So now we are using the same dialogues of Modi to show him how inflation has risen. Where are the BJP karyakartas and mahila workers? We protest this inflation and we want a rollback of the prices,” she said.
