How to Create Systems for Your Cleaning Business
Today I chatted with Brice Cubbage from QC Cleaning, an 18-year old ambitious entrepreneur just starting out.
I really related to him in that he has tried several different business models, just like I have in the past. One thing that cleaning business entrepreneurs take for granted is just the amount of leverage we have in this business, it’s a big reason why I consider it such a better opportunity than other businesses. You sell just an account once, that money is guaranteed revenue (or as close as can be in business) coming in every single month based off a signed contract.
Compared that to a car dealership where the start of every month you’re back at a big ZERO, and you can see the opportunity with cleaning businesses. When you have the ability to tell how much revenue you are going to do based off signed contracts, it allows you to really plan your growth.
One of the best engines of growth for your company is going to be good systems. So how do we get there?
A System for Creating Effective Systems to Scale Your Cleaning Business
You need to pick your battles with systems.
While you could go out there and create an entire payroll system of your own, you should realize you are not in the payroll business. Instead of spending all that time doing something you don’t do that won’t increase business growth, tap into expert systems that are already there for you such as QuickenBooks for payroll.

The battles you should create systems for should be directly tied into them growing your business. Before you can create that kind of system, you need to realize that systems automate results. If you don’t have crystal clear goals for each system, then the system just isn’t going be that good.
Three Systems You Should Build
Out of all the systems you could possibly build, these three are the most important that you should not subout.
Client Attraction System: You might leverage a platform such as Facebook for ads, but you should have some kind of marketing funnel set up to attract more leads to your business.
Employee Attraction System: Similar to clients, you might use a platform like Indeed.com to find talent but you need to have an effective on-boarding process for that talent.
Cleaning Processes and Core Values: These systems show how to do the actual job the most effectively.
Resource Alert: Commercial Cleaning Systems for Your Employees http://www.growmycleaningcompany.com/commercial-cleaning-systems/
Remember, systems are created for employees to ultimately use and thrive within, not for you to do it yourself. That being said, systems shouldn’t just be created in a bubble. Rather invite your employees to participate. It will get them to “buy in” more to your company, and honestly some of the best feedback you’ll get will be from your people in the trenches doing the work and finding out what makes their lives easier.
Ultimately, you want to put systems in place FAST. That means your first systems are probably going to be terrible. That’s fine, don’t fret over it. It is far easier to improve a crappy system than to improve something that has no system at all in place.
Once you have the system created and implemented, give it sometime to work and then come back to review it. Did the system automate the result you had set out for it? Did it do it well? Why not?
This is when you can tweak the system to perform better for you. Even your second revision will not be perfect, but by constantly refining the system you can make it better and better over time.
Repeat this process of refining your systems over and over again.
