Rocco starts World Industries and took a bunch of the worlds best street skaters with him. As the brand grew he started launching board brands under the world umbrella with his friends and skaters that he admired. The early team was Jason Lee, Ron Chatman, Jeremy Klien, Daewon, Shiloh Greathouse, and Jovontea Turner.

Brad Dorfman told Rocco that street skating was a waste of time and would never be a big thing. So Enemy #1 for Rocco is Dorfman. And in 1989, Mark Gonzales founds Blind skateboards under Steve Rocco and the world industries umbrella.

After pissing off Rocco by telling him street skating was a waste of his time, Gonz and Rocco decide to name the brand BLIND as a direct diss to the super popular Vision skateboards at the time. The original blind logo was drawn by Mark Gonzales and you can definitely see the resemblance between th OG logo and the current Krooked art.

The Blind Reaper logo came along in 1996 and was drawn and conceived by Mark Mckee.

Mark’s good friend Jason Lee moved over from the world industries. It was unusual for people to jump from the world camp because it was the biggest and coolest brand around at the time.

Rivalry starts between Blind and Powell after they steal the two biggest Powell Peralta Ams: Rudy Johnson & Guy Mariano at the time. Eventually, Rocco launches the famous “Dear George” ad and boards series. With graphics for Mark Gonzales, Jason Lee and Rudy Johnson. This is explained by Mark McKee in Disposable ‘ A history of skateboard art’ Vol1. The Dodo bird graphic ripping off Tony Hawk’s board was originally intended for Danny Way at the time. But there was such an intense rivalry between Danny and Tony at the time, they chose to give it to Jason Lee instead.

They would later piss off Powell Peralta again, when ripped off the soon to come out Powell Peralta Claudia Shiffer drawing board for Adam McNatt, and Sean Cliver drew a better version and Blind quickly released it before Powell.
-these stories are told in Sean Clivers Disposable Vol. 1 Book.

In 1989 Steve Rocco tells employee Spike Jonze to take the company credit card and start filming a video, he releases world industries Rubbish Heap.
In 1991, Spike releases his second ever movie, Blind Video Days movie which is one of the most. The team used to stay at Gonz’ house in Huntington beach and go filming all night with Spike.

The devil worship board was supposed to be for Jason Lee. Jason Lee didn’t want to upset people and said he didn’t want his name on it”. Gonz tells Jason, the board is evil and if he rides this board something bad will happened. Rocco even writes Jason lee a check for $10,000 to do the board, but Jason eventually refuses; the graphic ends up going to 101 and Natas Kaupas.

Mark McKee has been the man behind a number of iconic graphics: the American Icons Jason Lee graphic, Accidental Gun Death Guy Mariano 1992,
Beauty and the beast Henry Sanchez 1994, fucked up Blind Kids 1992 MM
jason lee burger graphic (1991). Jason Lee said this board also got him in Hot water with Mike V. Mike had recently quit world industries, and took offense to the ad thinking it was directed at him (he was a vegan and has recently released the Animal Farm graphic) Then Jason comes out with a Burger king graphic standing in front of BK with a shaved head. Mark Mckee has also done the iconic Markovich super size graphic, and the North Park series.

If you like baggy pants, check out Blind's iconic baggy jeans.

At the end of 1993 Johnson, Mariano, Gavin, and Wilson leave blind to join the rival Girl Skateboards camp. Jason lee decides to leave to found Stereo skateboards with Chris Pastras. And Mark Gonzales has differences with Rocco and decides to jump ship from the brand he started.

After some restructuring, In 2005, they release their second full length skate video: Blind ‘What If’. This video features: corey sheppard, jake duncombe, Grant patterson, Kris Marcovich, Carlos Ruiz, James Craig, Ronnie Creager & more. They also released the blind video, this is not a test, damn…, X2 vision. They were one of the earlier brands doing lots of YouTube stuff. Adding lots of new people to the team, like Morgan Smith, Kevin Romar, Yuto Horigome, Cody Mac, TJ Rogers & many more.
