This video is about how AI helps to increase sustainability.

It may seem as if there are countless applications for artificial intelligence. From an economic point of view, however, they can be reduced to one main driver whenever sustainability is a side effect: Cost reduction through higher efficiency. To achieve that you can use different kinds of AI such as machine learning, computer vision, and speech recognition, as parts of AI and deep learning as a part of machine learning.

Here are are four examples in agriculture:

AI can improve milk production per cow through better herd health and milk quality. This reduces greenhouse gases since fewer cows will be needed.

AI can be used to generate flavours such as a lightly grilled beef taste for use in plant-based meat alternatives. The AI technology looks for the most promising taste combinations through its database. This enables to enhance flavours and optimise raw material usage producing less waste.

For harvesting, there are robots that can scan food, for instance, apples and use deep learning to determine when they are ripe for picking.

Food sorting technologies use sensors, machine learning, and big data analysis to analyse harvested foods and sort them based on their best final use, which again reduces waste and maximises output.
