This is Matt and this is a video on how to blur an image in Canva.

I’m inside Canva with a design open, and I’ll use one of my ad designs as an example. Let’s say I wanted to blur this screenshot of one of my products shown on an iPhone. Maybe I don’t want the audience to see the details.

Click on the image, then at the top select Edit. Scroll down to the effects panel and click on Blur. The blur tool lets you adjust the entire image. By default, intensity is set to zero, but you can move the slider to increase the blur. At full intensity, the image is completely unrecognizable. Usually, you’ll just want to blur enough so the text or sensitive detail isn’t readable, which looks more natural. I tend to set it around 15 to 18 for most cases.

Once applied, you step back to the design view and the image is blurred. You can always go back, remove the blur, or adjust the intensity.

Now let me show you how to blur only part of an image. I’ll select a larger image of a laptop and open Edit again. In the blur settings, instead of blurring the whole image, I’ll use the brush option. You can change the brush size and intensity, then paint over the area you want blurred. The purple overlay shows where you’re applying the blur.

After brushing over the section, the blur applies automatically. You can tidy it up by going over missed spots or remove blur if needed. This is great if you only want to hide a person’s face, specific text, or any small section of an image while leaving the rest sharp.
