Elizabeth Warren calls out Tim Scott on the Senate floor after he blocked her amendments to the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025 — leaving community banks unprotected and cartel money-laundering loopholes wide open.

Senator Warren proposed two critical amendments:
1️⃣ Require crypto platforms to follow the same interest rate rules as traditional banks — protecting consumer deposits from being drained by unregulated crypto yields
2️⃣ Close a massive money-laundering loophole currently exploited by cartels on decentralized platforms

Tim Scott blocked both.

Warren's response: Republicans were "clearly terrified to vote on the provision."

🔴 THE BANKING CRISIS NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT
Six major banking associations — including the American Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers of America — warned the Clarity Act could catastrophically pull deposits from traditional banks into unregulated crypto platforms. Research cited shows this could shrink consumer lending, small business lending, and farm lending by one-fifth or more. Between May 9-13, bankers flooded Senate offices with over 8,000 urgent letters opposing the bill. The bipartisan Reed-Smith Amendment (Number 95) designed to prevent this deposit flight was completely excluded from a committee vote.

🔴 LAW ENFORCEMENT SOUNDS THE ALARM
Six major law enforcement organizations — the National Sheriffs' Association, National District Attorneys Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and others — formally opposed the bill. Senator Cortez Masto submitted their warning letters, calling the Clarity Act "a dangerous tool that severely weakens the ability of law enforcement to trace illegal finance." Her amendment to close the cartel loophole failed 11-13 on party lines.
