Coccinellidae, a scientific name of one of the most beloved insect, a ladybird bug or lady beetle or more entomologically, a ladybird beetle.

This episode is a first part of the series of most popular like harmonia axyridis or asian beetle to most exotic lady bird types. The colorful lady beetles are found in greenery in search of their food, which is mainly a sap feeder insects like aphids, white flies, mites, scale insects etc. Almost all the types of ladybird are guardians of our gardens, they protect our plants, crops or trees from sap feeder insects, they are natural pest controllers. Some ladybird species feed on mildew, a type of fungi. However, some lady beetle types can eat your plants, they are pests itself, more detail in next episode of this series.

In this part I have included five most popular coccinellidae or ladybird bug types. There is a brief information of each one, but surely it can help you identifying colorful lady beetles with their binomial names, binomial nomenclature is a scientific naming method of any living being. Here are the beetles included in this part.

1: Two spotted ladybird, this is one of the most commonly found ladybird beetle, its binomial name is "adalia bipunctata".

2: Transverse ladybird, this one common species from Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. it has very unique pattern on its elytra, and it is binomially known as coccinella transversalis.

3: Asian lady beetle, this one in aggressive one, and probably most popular due to that, Asian beetles are found in various colors, and they have more popular names as well, like Asian ladybug, multicolored Asian lady beetle and harlequin ladybird. and scientifically known as harmonia axyridis. Asian beetle can bite you as well. It is an invader type of coccinellidae.

4: The Seven spotted ladybug, one of the most common lady beetle in Europe, and spread to various countries for natural pest control. It is native to Europe but being out-competed by Asian ladybird, and seven spotted ladybug is out-competing the North American local species.

5: The eyed ladybug, the name became popular due to its black spots which are surrounded by lighter halo, and it gives an impression of lots of eyes on it, the binomial name of this beetle is anatis ocellata. Most of above species are versatile by their food intake habits, they can feed on various types of sap feeder insects, but the eyed lady beetle is more sensitive and its mostly Pine needle aphids.
