To add serial numbers in Excel, you can use the Fill Series method, the ROW function, or the Adding One method:
Fill Series
Select the cell where you want to start the serial numbers and type 1
Go to the Home tab, then Editing, then Fill, then Series
In the Series window, set Series In to Column, Step Value to 1, and Stop Value to the desired number
Click OK
ROW
In the cell you want to start the serial numbers, type =ROW()
Select the formula and drag it to the desired number
Adding One
In the cell you want to start the serial numbers, type 1
In the next cell, type =C1+1
Select the formula and drag it to the desired number
You can also create a serial number generator by:
Entering the first number in the cell where you want the serial numbers to start
Selecting the cell with the number
Moving the cursor to the bottom-right corner of the cell until it changes to a small black cross, called the fill handle
Clicking and dragging the fill handle down the column
