Govt Grants Relief to 1 Crore Taxpayers // Puri-Konark Vistadome Train Announced

The Narendra Modi government has taken a significant step by offering substantial relief to over one crore taxpayers, forgiving tax arrears of up to one lakh rupees. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) issued an order on February 13, 2024, announcing the waiver of outstanding tax claims until January 31, 2024. Under this order, taxpayers with tax arrears up to Rs 1 lakh will benefit. Specifically, for the assessment year 2020-11, tax demands up to Rs 25,000 will be waived for each taxpayer until January 31, 2024. Additionally, for assessment years 2011-12 to 2015-16, an exemption on tax demand of Rs 10,000 per annum will be applied, with a total cap of one lakh rupees. Former ICAI chairman Ved Jain praised the government's move to eliminate old tax demands, labeling them as write-offs. The Central Processing Centre in Bangalore has been tasked with implementing this order within a two-month timeframe.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed during a press briefing in Bhubaneswar that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the initiation of the Puri-Konark railway line project. Vaishnaw emphasized that this project fulfills a longstanding demand of the people and will commence with land acquisition. Stressing the significance of spiritual, heritage, and coastal tourism in the region, he expressed excitement about the prospect of connecting Puri and Konark through this railway line. The project, spanning approximately 32 kilometers and costing Rs 492 crore, aims to enhance connectivity between the Konark Sun Temple and the Puri Srimandir of Lord Jagannath.
