Y3K X #MahimBeachCleanUp

We kicked off Y3K by collaborating with #MahimBeachCleanup - and for the four of us on the Dysco team, this was our first ever cleanup. We were both amazed and saddened by so many things - most significantly the realisation that most of the things that the ocean throws back at us, are things that we all use and dispose of every single day. Packets of chips, medicine wrappers, plastic bottles, gift wrapping, garbage bags, milk packets, clothing labels, school bags, shoes and so much else. Of course, cleaning the beach by hand is not feasible, but the idea is that if you spend two hours picking up this trash, you might rethink what you buy and how you dispose of it. There isn’t a well thought out system of collecting, segregating and disposing trash. What you throw in the bin is often incinerated or dumped straight into a landfill (or into the ocean). We need to make small steps, just being more conscious, asking more questions, making the less convenient choice, or investing in creating cheaper and more accessible options. These are our surroundings to look after, and our cities to preserve. It’s our planet to take care of, and there are many out there who want to help. Thank you to those who joined us, and thank you to Indranil and Rabia for building this wonderful and thoughtful provoking initiative.
