Drone Footage of Pine Island at Lake Livingston, Texas - DJI Air 2S at 4K
Working on smoothness with the DJI Air 2S. Cine mode smoothness set in the DJI app to the highest setting, and slew rates for rotation and tilt set very slow. DJI's defaults are way too sensitive, IMO.
Shot with DLOG compression; used the corresponding lookup table (LUT) provided by DJI, in Final Cut Pro X, to correct the color. The landing was done by the drone using the return-to-origin feature. It gimbals the camera up once it's descended to about five feet over the landing spot, I presume to protect the lens from debris such as sand kicked up by the props. The target is helpful because the landing area is sandy and doesn't have a lot of features for the drone to line up to when landing.
Pine Island is interesting and a little sad. It was 110 acres or so when the lake was filled in the early 1970s but has eroded to only 33 acres. Yet it is home to deer, raccoon, birds, insects, and snakes. Lots of snakes. There's a Wikipedia page about it. There's a road across part of it on the maps but it hasn't received any maintenance, of course, in over 50 years, so I suppose it's pretty overgrown.
