When you open the box you get the airpods pro 2 case with both earbuds inside, a usb c to lightning charging cable and 3 different sized ear tips to ensure you have 4 total options to fit your ears. The overall shape of the charging case is the same but it now has holes for a lanyard or strap and a built-in speaker to let you know when it’s charging, and plays a sound when you use the find my app on your phone to ring it. It also has built in precision tracking, so now if you do lose it, you can better track it on my find my app and use precision tracking on your phone to literally point you in the right direction. And the air pods pro 2 can also charge with an apple watch charger. Giving you 3 different ways to charge these. Through the lightning port, with magsafe or standard wireless charging, or with your apple watch charger. The earbuds themselves look very similar to the previous version but the placement of these little black cutouts are a little different. You can actually place one of the last generation airpods pro inside the new model’s case, but it will make this sound and blink orange letting you know these aren’t compatible. Apple advertises 6 hours of battery life in each ear bud and 30hours of total battery in the charging case and that it has better noise canceling, and a better transparency mode.

The Airpods pro 2 are super portable, easy to take with you, don’t bulge too much in your pocket, and overall make it really easy to slip it into a pocket and just go. They sound fuller than the original Airpods pros and provide more low end while still keeping the details on the mid and high end. Overall, sound quality is a decent upgrade over the previous generation. Because the case now has a speaker, noise alerts make it easier to know what is happening with the airpods rather than just relying on the blinking light show happening up front. Since the battery life is so much longer, you’re never really in a situation where you need to charge the earbuds. The airpods pro 2 also have built in volume control now. You can adjust the volume by sliding your finger along the stem of the earbud. The adaptive noise canceling is pretty good and turns the loud wind noise of airplanes into a nice hum. It’s not as good as full blown noise canceling headphones but pretty good and decently better than the previous version. The adaptive transparency mode sounds good and makes your environment sound just as clear as if you didn’t have any earbuds on at all.

In Apple’s airpods lineup they have the 2nd gen airpods, 3rd gen airpods and these airpod pro 2s. And in most of Apple’s product line-up you can point to the middle device and it will probably be the best value and suit most people’s needs. I really think the best value has got to be the airpods Pros. The pros are actually earbuds that sit in your ears, and they have so many additional built in features like a speaker built into the charging case, precision tracking and noise canceling features that all make your life easier. So if you’re looking at airpods and have the budget for the Pros, they’re well worth the price. Now let’s compare them to other noise canceling truly wireless earbuds. There are plenty of truly wireless noise canceling earbuds that should and will catch your attention, the Sony wh100xm4s, the Pixel buds pro, and Samsung buds2 pro. They all differ in sound quality and noise canceling capabilities. And lastly if you’re looking at the airpods pro you’re probably considering full blown noise canceling headphones too, like the sony wh 1000xm5 or Bose QC 900s. Those sound significantly better in both sound quality and noise canceling. But speaking as a person who traveled a lot. Constantly making room for those big headphones was super annoying and takes up way too much space in a carry on backpack when small noise canceling earbuds do good enough.

The Airpods Pro 2 are a fantastic option, it has good sound, good noise canceling, adaptive transparency mode to make external sounds clearer and features to help you find them easier. It’s easily Apple’s best airpods yet. its small size makes it much more convenient than carrying full sized noise canceling headphones with you on trips. It’s truly one size fits all. If you’re in the market for truly wireless earbuds or looking to replace your aging pair of wireless earbuds, I’d start right here with the Apple Airpods Pro 2.
