Breaking the Cycle of Domestic Abuse

“Without For Baby’s Sake, we absolutely wouldn’t be together. We wouldn’t have our children, and that’s a frightening prospect.”

Katie* and James* have been together for 11 years. Together, they navigated big life changes, from moving jobs to moving countries. But after the birth of their first baby, exacerbated by exhaustion and the weight of new parenthood, pressures began to build and the couple reached the point of breakdown. Katie* didn't feel safe, so decided to leave for a period of time, to seek the help she needed. After hitting rock bottom, they agreed to seek support as a couple.

They were referred to For Baby’s Sake @forbabyssake an organisation that receives funding from Comic Relief, dedicated to breaking cycles of domestic abuse. They provide parents with trauma-informed, therapeutic support to break the cycle of abuse and give their children the best start in life. After going through 18 months of For Baby’s Sake’s programme, and with the support of their practitioners, they were able to reconnect as a couple and a family. Today, they have reconnected as a couple and as a family, creating a stronger, more stable, and nurturing home for their children and themselves.
