The Reality of Teenage Homelessness

Anya grew up in rural North Wales; she began sofa surfing at a young age and experienced homelessness throughout her teenage years. Anya found herself looking for a safe place to call home. She was introduced to GISDA, a Welsh charity that supports young people, tackling youth homelessness and providing wellbeing and support services. Through GISDA, she was able to move into temporary accommodation at the age of 16 and finish school –and eventually was able to support herself and volunteer at GISDA to help other young people. Anya is now a teaching assistant at a local primary school, and lives in North Wales with her partner and two cats.

GISDA supports young people in Gwynedd, Wales, with services including accommodation and support for vulnerable young people, access to mental health resources and building skills to unleash their full potential. Services also include bespoke support for young parents and the LGBTQIA youth community.
