Kyung Wha Chung plays Mozart violin sonata K.379
Kyung-Wha Chung plays Mozart Violin Sonata No.27 K.379(373a) in G major with Itamar Golan at the benefit recital that took place in Seoul, Korea in 1999.
I. Adagio - Allegro 0:02
II. Andantino cantabile [Theme and Variations] 9:05
Well-known for being a perfectionist, Kyung-Wha Chung wouldn't perform a new repertoire until she feels that she has found her own voice in the piece. In an interview from 1979, she mentions about Mozart being so difficult to bring to life despite its relatively simple technical challenges. But when she finally started performing Mozart sonatas to the public in the late 1990's, they were definitely with a voice of her own; vibrant rhythm, lively energy and warm lyricism in the slow movements shines a fresh light to these works.
The source file of this recital is a streaming video I downloaded some 13 years ago, hence the dire quality. But I was lucky enough to get hold of the sound recording of the recital in a clearer condition (albeit nowhere near the standard of professional recordings. After all this benefit concert took place in a church and both video and audio recordings were done by the media team of the church) and could cooperate to the video. I present these videos for the sake of the audio and Ms Chung's interpretation rather than that of the videos themselves.
