Senior Labour figures are allegedly plotting a quiet route back to Parliament for Andy Burnham.

According to reports, ministers could persuade a sitting MP to stand aside, allowing the Greater Manchester mayor to re-enter the Commons without triggering an immediate leadership challenge to Keir Starmer.

It would also leave Labour MPs with a ready-made successor should Sir Keir stumble in the coming months.
