Don't Waste the Kingdom of God - The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (October 4, 2020)

Today is the Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time; and in today’s Gospel, Jesus asks the chief priests: When the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to the tenants who killed his son?

He will put the tenants to ‘a wretched death’ and have his vineyard leased to new tenants, they say. Then the Lord tells them: “The Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.”

Friends, the “wretched tenants” did not welcome the servants and the son of the vineyard owner because they wanted the estate to be theirs. The proud chief priests did not believe John the Baptist and Jesus because they thought their own knowledge would earn them the Kingdom. Let us reflect on this: Do I dismiss God’s messengers, thereby wasting my chance to gain the true Kingdom of God?
