God is Irrelevant: Discuss by John Lennox (Official Recording)
God is Irrelevant: Discuss - Prof. John Lennox (Oxford University, UK)
Big Idea Lecture at HKU
7pm, Monday 9 September 2013.
Humans once found solace from a universe of things that could not be explained with a myriad of gods that thundered from above. This idea was later refined to say that a single God was in charge of the world. Today science points the way to unlocking the mysteries of the natural world around us. God is therefore obsolete, rendered irrelevant. (But is this true?)
John Lennox is Professor of Mathematics in the University of Oxford, Fellow in Mathematics and the Philosophy of Science, and Pastoral Advisor at Green Templeton College, Oxford. He is also an adjunct Lecturer at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University and at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and is a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum. In addition, he teaches for the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the Executive Education Centre, Said Business School, Oxford University.
John Lennox has written a number of books exploring topics relating to science, faith and theology, including God's Undertaker: Has Science Buried God? (2007), God and Stephen Hawking: Whose Design is it Anyway? (2011), Seven Days that Divide the World (2011), and Gunning for God: Why the New Atheists are Missing the Target (2011).
